Summer Reading Program Announced
The Bandera Public Library announces its Summer Reading Program schedule, “Build a Better World.” Pre-School program, headed by Storytime coordinator Pattie Mathis, will be from 10:30 am to noon, starting on Tuesday, June 20 and running for five weeks, skipping the Fourth of July. The older kids, ages 6-10+, will meet with assistant librarian Nicole Marlow from 10:30 am to noon, on Thursdays beginning on June 22. Both programs will conclude the last week of July and culminate in a combined Pizza Party at noon on Thursday, July 27.
Pre-registration for summer reading programs is strongly encouraged. Parents or guardians may pick-up the registration forms from the Bandera Public Library this week. Late registration will be allowed the morning of the first meeting but is discouraged, so that staff may properly prepare for the program and have enough materials on hand for everyone and to make sure there are snacks and refreshments for all. Any questions may be directed to the Library at 830-96-4213, Monday-Friday, 10 am - 6 pm.
New Boost to Library Internet and WiFi
The Bandera Library is very pleased to announce its’ new partnership with area internet provider, commZoom. The library moves from a former top speed of 15 Mbps to near to 100 Mbps download speeds and up to 15 Mbps upload speed. The library went live with the new provider on May 26. It is proving to be extremely stable and able to support dozens of users simultaneous.
“This is big for Bandera,” commented coomZoom CEO Bob Cohen. “Higher broadband capacity is crucial to economic development, education, healthcare and quality of Life. We’re excited to be here and look forward to being an asset to the community.”
Stop by and enjoy the new offering or utilize it even after library hours. It is live 24/7. Call the library during business hours, 10 am to 6 pm, Monday through Friday for the up-to-date password.
TAME Trailblazer arrives at Bandera Library
Library Director Mike Garr is excited by the arrival of the Trailblazer on Thursday, June 22 from 10 am- 2 pm. This unique museum-on-wheels features exciting, hands-on exhibits that teach students about energy, space, weather, biotechnology and aerodynamics while also introducing them to career opportunities in STEM. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). The 12’ high and 50’ long Trailer will arrive late Wednesday and be ready for tours beginning at 10 am and ending at 2 pm, Thursday, June 22. Groups are encouraged to call the library to schedule their tour. It is recommended to allow 30-45 minutes for the visit. The Trailblazer will be available to children of ALL ages, including curious adults. You will see it parked in front of Bandera Library during the event day.
The Bandera Library wishes to thank the Medina Library for inclusion in this project. The mobile science museum will make its appearance at the Medina Library from 10 am to 2 pm, Tuesday, June 20. The TAME Trailblazer will be visiting both libraries free of charge, thanks to a generous sponsorship by the Tocker Foundation.
