by Bev Barr

Bandera County Retired Teachers Association requests that all retired teachers in Bandera County attend a meeting and luncheon at 10:30 am, Wednesday, Aug. 16, at the Medina Community Library on Hwy 16 N., in Medina. Ken Hanson will provide the latest information concerning TRS health care. Please RSVP before Sunday, Aug. 13, to Sherrie Keese at 830-580-2384.
Trade Days in Medina,
first Saturday each month
Local residents and entrepreneurs turn out the first weekend of every month at The Old Timer, for an old fashion Trade Days.
It’s a wrap!
The Medina Community Library wrapped up its Summer Reading Program with a pizza party. Mary Ellen Lindstrom, library director, thanks all of the children and parents who participated in the program and extends a very special thank you to Alison Harbour.
Free school supplies for Medina children
Agape Thrift Store will provide free school supplies for Medina families that need financial help getting their children ready for school. Sign up sheets are available at the Agape Thrift Store and the United Methodist Church. You may also send an email to nancywojo@hctc.net . Include your name, the child’s name, the child’s grade, and phone number or contact information. School supplies will be distributed from 11 am to 2 pm Saturday, Aug. 19, at the Agape Thrift Store, in the cottage next to the Medina United Methodist Church, located on Reed Street.
TUESDAY, AUG. 15
Fiber Talk
(and no, we’re not talking about fiber optics)
Dale Naumann will talk about angora goats and processing the fleece. He will share examples of fibers and demonstrate traditional hand carding and spinning the fiber into mohair yarn. Carding fibers is similar to combing hair. It’s a way of straightening and organizing fibers before spinning them into yarn. This will be a treat for anyone of any age who hasn’t seen the process before.
The Medina Quilters
The quilters are an informal group of people who enjoy quilting and fabric arts. Anyone interested is welcome to attend from 4 to 6 pm, in the community room at the library.
A Reminder: No astronomy club during this month of August.
Mark your calendar!
Travis and Heidi Klaassen’s vision for The Core House Ministries is coming to fruition. The couple will host a “Tour de Core” Wednesday, Aug. 30. All are welcome to this special celebration, supper and a program at 6 pm.
