Diabetes education classes, Aug. 17, 21, 31 & Sept. 21
The Hill Country Memorial Wellness Center will host several diabetes education classes beginning Aug. 17.
A “Self-Care Management of Diabetes” seminar will be from 9 am to noon, Thursday, Aug. 17; and offered again Thursday, Sept. 21.
A “What Is Pre-Diabetes?” class from noon to 1 pm, Thursday, Aug. 31; and from 5:30 to 6:30 pm, Thursday, Sept. 21.
Diabetes education classes are held at the HCM Wellness Center, 1006 S. State Hwy. 16, Fredericksburg.
Space is limited. Registration is requested.

Hill Country Memorial works to educate residents about diabetes by offering classes and free hemoglobin A1c screenings throughout the year.

Audit classes at Schreiner, deadline Aug. 18
Hill Country residents age 55 or older who want to audit classes at Schreiner University this fall need to apply for non-degree status by Friday, Aug. 18.
Apply in the Admissions Office in the Schreiner University Welcome Center or online at The cost to apply is $25.
Cost is $50 per credit hour, and most courses are 3 credit hours. Auditors do not receive grades and do not earn credit hours. Enrollment in the following courses is on a space-available basis: World Literature 1, Introduction to Film, American Literature to the Civil War, British Literature 1, Studies in Shakespeare, Art of Editing, US Constitutional History, Civil War and Reconstruction, Europe in the World Wars, Modern East Asia, History of Western Music to 1750, Philosophy of Religion, American Presidency, Social and Political Philosophy, Church and State, Regional Study of Europe, History of Theatre, Texas Culture in Literature and Song.

Professional food manager certification course, Aug. 23-24
Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service is offering a professional food manager certification training course called “Food Safety: It’s Our Business.” This program will be offered from 9 am to 4 pm, Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 23 and 24, at the Kerr County Extension Office, 3775 Highway 27, in Kerrville. The cost is $125 and includes training materials and a national food manager certification examination. The food manager’s certification will be valid anywhere in Texas for 5 years.
The program will provide valuable education regarding the safe handling of food, and it will prepare foodservice managers to pass the certification examination.

Landowner Easement workshop, Aug. 25
The Cibolo Conservancy Land Trust, in partnership with the Hill Country Alliance, is hosting a landowner workshop from 2 pm to 5 pm, Friday, Aug. 25, 2017, at the Cibolo Nature Center Auditorium, 140 City Park Road, Boerne.
This workshop will focus on conservation easements—a tool available to help landowners steward and protect their land investment in the long term.
Workshop topics include: My Dream for My Land video; Conservation Easement Basics and Income and Estate Tax Benefits of Donating a Conservation Easement; The Land Trust Role in the Conservation Easement Process; and Discussion with Conservation Easement Donors.
Registration begins at 1:30; walk-ins are welcome and pre-registration is advised to ensure your seat. The cost is $20 per person. Register online at
