Keeping Up with Medina Matters

Turkey and trimmings for Medina families
Every year the non-profit Agape thrift store provides assistance to Medina residents in need: turkeys and the trimmings for families to prepare in their own homes during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. To request assistance for Thanksgiving; sign up by Monday, Nov.13. The food baskets will be distributed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 18, at the Agape Thrift Store next to the United Methodist Church on Reed Ave.
The thrift shop is also accepting sign-up requests for Christmas baskets through Dec. 3. The Christmas baskets include a ham and gifts, which will be available for pick-up from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 23, at the Agape Thrift Store.
To sign up for these free services, stop in at the Agape Thrift Store from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Saturdays; or send an email to nancywojo@hctc.net; or call 830-589-3228 or cellphone 619-504-7750. Please provide name, address, phone number, number of people in the family. For Christmas, please provide the names and ages of children in the family and a “wish list” for children 10 years old and younger. Children older than 10 years old will receive a Walmart gift card.
THURSDAY, NOV. 9
The Bandera County Commissioners Court will convene for a regular meeting at 10 a.m., 500 Main St., Bandera. The meetings are open to the public.
FRIDAY, NOV 10
9 a.m., The Medina Quilters are an informal group of people who enjoy quilting and other fabric and textile arts. All are welcome to socialize over “Coffee at the Cottage” on Friday morning, followed by a 10 a.m., Embroidery Club, which meets at the Little Cottage Quilt Shop on Hwy 16. The Quilters’ meeting will be at a different time this month, Tuesday, Nov. 21 at the library.

Genealogy and History
10:15 a.m., The Medina Genealogical and Historical Society meets in the Texana room at the Medina Community Library.
Medina Book Club
2:30 p.m., refreshments; 3 p.m., book discussion begins in the community room at the library. “Lest Innocent Blood Be Shed,” by Philip Hallie is the nonfiction selection for November.
MCL Board of Directors’ Meeting
Tuesday from 5:15 pm until 6:15 pm, the board of directors meeting for the Medina Community Library is open to the public.

LEGOs at the Library
Play with the popular construction toy starting at 3:30 pm at the library. An adult must accompany children younger than 8 years old.
Community Choir Practice
Interested in singing in a non-denominational choir? The Medina Community Choir prepares for a concert in December from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Core. Call Deb Hopkins 589-7289; or email scotth1435@aol.com.

Alcoholics Anonymous
Anyone who wants to change their drinking behavior is welcome to attend the Alcoholics Anonymous support group that meets at 7 pm every Thursday in the Cottage of Medina United Methodist Church, 266 Reed Avenue.
