Ladies of Grace Lutheran quilt for the world
The Women of Grace, a ministry group of Grace Lutheran Church of Bandera, meet throughout the year to work on quilting projects that are eventually distributed throughout the world by Lutheran World Relief.
Spokesperson, Dorothy Taylor said, “Several women cut squares and sew them into quilt tops. We then layer them with batting and add gently used bed sheets for the bottoms. Using embroidery thread, we stitch the corners and centers of the squares to secure the quilts. Some of the ladies then take them home and sew the edges.”
This year, working through the summer months, the ladies produced a record number of quilts, seventy-four. The quilts are displayed on the church pews and on a Sunday, prior to delivery and blessed by the congregation in a special ceremony.
Taylor added, “Delivery day is the fun time. We take them to a church in Fredericksburg and they end up in Maryland where they are sent out to the countries in need. Last year they went to the countries of Georgia, Angola, Haiti and Tanzinia.”
