Shirley Lanelle Lancette

1951-2017

Shirley Lanelle Lancette, age 66, of Pipe Creek, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017, at her home in Pipe Creek. She was born to Neva and Wendell Porter on Nov. 3, 1951. She married Dean Lancette on Valentine’s Day, 1978, in San Antonio, Texas.
Lanelle attended school at Baskin Elementary, Longfellow Junior High and Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio, Texas. She earned an associate’s degree in interior design at San Antonio College before beginning what would become a lifelong career as a beautician and owner of the beauty salon, The Spoiled Rotten Salon, located in Bandera, Texas.
It is true that Lanelle was a skillful hairstylist, who highlighted, permed, cut and dyed hair to her customers’ satisfaction. But her true genius lay in the genuine delight and interest she took and in her customers’ tales and travails. She listened attentively everyone, and discovered and relished the uniqueness of the people she served. She truly appreciated the God-given talents and the persistence of hardworking people. She loved listening to people share nostalgic memories of bygone days. She also reserved a special place in her heart for those who felt like life had dealt them an unfair blow. Lanelle had perfect way of encouraging people and patiently reminding us all that better days lie ahead.
Lanelle credited her parents for just about any good thing she ever did. Wendell and Neva Porter preceded her in death in 2004 and 2008 respectively.
Lanelle is survived by her son, Christopher Scott Lancette and his wife, Kim Lopresti Lancette, and their son, Lanelle’s grandson, Aden; her brother, Richard Brian Porter and his wife, Brenda; her sister, Sharon Porter Cuoco and her husband, Nicolas; and her brother, Thomas Alan Porter, Ph.D. She is also survived by her niece, Lisa Stewart and husband, Jeremy and their children; nephew, Mark Porter and Karisha Gomez; niece, Sarah Porter and Jeffrey Leitzell; and niece, Cammy Cuoco and fiancé, Eric Martinez.
Lanelle was a strong, single woman who dared to create and achieve a space where people felt welcomed, at home, and uplifted. She valued faith, family and friendship, and adhered to The Golden Rule, always treating others, as she wanted to be treated.
Please join Lanelle’s family and friends at a visitation from 11 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017, at the Grimes Funeral Chapel, 1214 Mulberry St., in Bandera. A memorial will follow the visitation at noon.
The family wishes to thank Robin and Mark Bonner and the staff at The Spoiled Rotten Salon for their continued support of our mother, mother in law, grandmother, sister and friend.
