Nan Gifford Wessling Gallant
1911-2009
Nan Gifford Wessling Gallant passed away peacefully early in the morning of Friday, Dec. 18, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Roberta and Abel Garcia, where she had lived for the past year.
Nan was born July 4, 1911, in San Antonio to John Alfred and Ruth Lavinia Curry Gifford.
She married John August Wessling of Pharr on March 16, 1933. He died Oct. 9, 1975. On June 9, 1984, Nan married Archie Gallant of Medina, who died Dec. 28, 1989. She felt greatly blessed, as each was a wonderfully kind, loving, and lovable Christian husband.
Nan is survived by a sister, Edna Gifford Hill of Mineral Wells; son John Charles Wessling of Alpine; two daughters, and son-in-laws, Roberta Garcia and her husband, Abel, of Seguin, and Opal Funke and her husband, Frederick, of Medina; four grandsons; two granddaughters-in-law, and two great-granddaughters; one step-grandson, three step-granddaughters, one step-great-grandson and four step-great-granddaughters, as well as numerous in-laws, several generations of nieces, nephews and cousins and other very special friends.
She was preceded in death by a baby daughter, Ruth Elizabeth Wessling; three sisters, Mae Gifford Jackel Willetts, Electa Gifford Wisdom, and Dell Gifford Kenne; and by brother Henry Gifford.
A family graveside memorial service, conducted by Nan’s dearly loved nephew, Ray Jackel of San Antonio, was held Saturday, Dec. 26, at Oak Island Cemetery in southern Bexar County.
