Bulldogs fall to Fredericksburg

Bandera Bulldog Basketball traveled to Fredericksburg on January 31, to start the second round of district play. Bandera fought through until the final buzzer that found the Billies up 72-39.
The first quarter was very low scoring with the Bulldogs scoring 2 points and giving up 10 to the Billies.
The second quarter saw plenty of scoring from both teams. Bandera scored 16 points to bring their halftime total to 18, but they also allowed the Billies 24 points which brought their halftime total to 34.
The ‘Dogs did not go down with out a fight as the game was played even in the third quarter with both teams scoring 12 points. Score going into the fourth quarter was 46-30, in favor of the Billies.
A tough fourth quarter on both sides of the floor for Bandera allowed Fredericksburg to extend on their lead by the final buzzer. The Bulldogs scored 9 points and gave up 26 to the high scoring opponent.
Leading scorers for Bandera were Brandon Chamberlain with 14, Alex Cardenas and Aaron Givens with 7 each.
Bandera’s overall record is now 8-17. District record is now 1-4, which puts the Bulldogs in fourth place.
Bandera’s JV team also took on the Billies in the second matchup of the season.
“We played well defensively, but were unable to keep the Billies off the offensive glass allowing second chance opportunities and found ourselves down 16 at the half,” JV Coach Bryan Gams said.
The third quarter proved to be the best offensively for the Bulldogs, scoring 12 points in the quarter while giving up 12 on the defensive end. The Billies proved too much in the end for Bandera, as the Bulldogs ultimately fell to the Billies 57 to 27.
Lead scorer for the game was Braeden Wheeler with 13 points.
Bandera took on Canyon Lake this past Tuesday night and will host the Boerne Greyhounds this Friday night with a 5:30pm tipoff.
