LadyBulldog powerlifters on road to regionals

Special from Coach Steve Golemon

For the first time this powerlifting season only one of the nine Lady Bulldogs who attended the 2017 Somerset Powerlifting Meet on Saturday, February 4, was participating in her first powerlifting meet ever. The end result was that all competed extremely well, and tremendous improvement was achieved by all who attended the meet. Once again, the 2017 Somerset Powerlifting Meet was much larger than the previous two meets that the Bandera Lady Bulldogs had attended.
In the Varsity division, junior Ivy Rodriguez finished 4th in her weight class with a total weight of 675 pounds, while freshman Caitlin Watson finished 5th in her weight class with a total weight of 500 pounds. Freshman Kimberley Salinas, with 545 pounds, and freshman Caitlyn Thrasher, with 430 pounds, both finished 7th in their weight classes. Like the previously mentioned varsity competitors, freshman Alena Swan, with 475 pounds, and freshman Madison Delanghe with 565 pounds, had personal best weight totals.
In the Junior Varsity division, sophomore Jazzlynn Lewis, competing in her first meet ever, captured the 2nd place medal in her weight call by recording a total weight of 605 pounds. The other junior varsity entry, junior Allie Elkins, won the the 3rd place medal in her weight class with a total lift of 515, which is her personal best to date.
In the Freshman division, Belle Hoover won first in her weight class with a total weight of 245 pounds, which is her personal best.
There are only 2 more invitational powerlifting meets on the 2017 Bandera LadyBulldog schedule. The next meet is the 2017 East Central Powerlifting Meet on Saturday, February 11, followed by the Texas Strength Systems Last Chance Qualifiers Meet on Thursday, February 16.
Both meets are extremely important, since it would appear that approximately seven LadyBulldogs have at least an outside chance of qualifying for the 2017 Region V Division II Powerlifting Meet, which will be held in Carrizo Springs on Friday and Saturday, March 3--4.
