Bandera Bulldogs Varsity Baseball traveled to Pleasanton this past weekend to compete in the annual Eagles’ tournament, taking on four strong teams and bringing home a second place trophy after beating Holy Cross, Pleasanton and state-ranked Sinton.
The Bulldogs went 3-1, overall, with their first loss in the championship game against Crosby.
The Bulldogs opened the tournament with a 10-1 win over Holy Cross. That same afternoon the boys beat the host team Pleasanton 11-1, to start off 2-0 in tournament play.
Friday was a true test for the Bulldogs as they took on preseason top ten state-ranked Sinton Pirates.
The Bulldogs were down 1-0 in the sixth inning when they were able to rally off 3 runs and hold on to a 3-2 win. “Saturday night, in the championship game we ran into a really good hitting club out of Crosby,” Bandera Head Baseball Coach Jeff Quillin said. “They up ended us for the final game of the tournament but, we as a coaching staff, could not be prouder of the fight and competitiveness that these young men showed.”
Quillin praised Bandera’s offensive showing, noting the variety of pitchers taking the mound for the Bulldogs.
“Offensively for the weekend, we were paced by Casey Harp, Alex Cardenas, Brandon Chamberlain and Reese Jennings,” Quillin said. “On the mound we had some great showings from Harp, Game 1 winner 6 K's, Dakota Goode, Game 2 winner CG, 4 K's, 3 Hits, A. Cardenas (Started vs. Sinton 2 K's, 2 Hits), Chamberlain, Game 3 Winner with 4 Innings of Relief vs. Sinton 5 K's, 1 hit and Sam Cizek, 4 innings total 5 K's.”
The Varsity Bulldogs will next be in action this Thursday through Saturday at home for the annual Bandera Varsity Tournament.
“We hope to pack the stands for the tournament,” Quillin said. “Come and watch the boys in action against SA Southside, 5 pm Thursday, Corner Stone, 7 pm Thursday, Medina Valley, 7 pm Friday and Skidmore-Tynan 12 pm Saturday.”
On Tuesday, March 7, Bandera will travel to Boerne to take on the Greyhounds for their first District game of the season. The District rival showdown starts at 7pm.
Bandera JV will take on the Greyhounds in Boerne on March 6, for their first District game, hosting Hondo on March 13.
