Congratulations go out to freshman Caitlin Watson on winning the fifth place medal in the 105 pound weight class at 2017 Texas High School Women's Powerlifting Association Region 5 Division II Meet in Carrizo Springs on Saturday, March 4.
Caitlin's total combined weight was 550 pounds. In order to win the fifth place medal, Caitlin had to pounds in the Deadlift, which obviously she did.
Although the other three Bandera LadyBulldog entries at the Region 5 Division II Powerlifting Meet did not medal, they all had their best combined weight total of the 2017 powerlifting season.
Sophomore Jazlynn Lewis had total combined weight of 735 pounds, while junior Ivy Rodriguez ended with a combined weight total of 800 pounds. Freshman Caitlyn Thrasher, competing in the 97 pound weight class, had a combined weight total of 510 pounds, which was only five pounds and one place away from capturing the fifth place medal in her weight class.
The 2017 powerlifting season was the first time for any of these four LadyBulldogs to compete in Powerlifting. In fact, except for one junior, this was the first year for thirteen of the fourteen team members to ever compete in Powerlifting. If all team members return to compete in Powerlifting during the 2017-18 powerlifting season, the team will consist of eleven sophomores, one junior and two seniors, plus any incoming freshmen.
