The Bandera Bulldog 4X200M Relay team of Alex Cardenas, Tommy Cardenas, Isaac Bourg and Ryan Smith placed sixth at the UIL Region IV Track and Field Championships held at Javelina Stadium at Texas A&M Kingsville University this past weekend April 28-29.
“We came in seeded seventh and it's a tough place to run when the other Areas are pretty strong,” Head Bpys Track Coach Tyler Wanek said. “We had a slight injury to one of the kids and decided to change the order of hand-offs.”
The Bulldogs won the Area meet in this race with a record-setting time of 1:30.68, a little over a second faster than their Regional time of 1:31.96.
“Times were definitely slower due to heat and wind factors,” Wanek said.
The Area Champs also qualified for Regionals in the 4X100M Relay, placing tenth overall with a time of 43.91.
“Congratulations to these young men on their outstanding efforts this past weekend!” Wanek said.
Fortunately for the Bulldog Track program, all four young men will return next year. Alexander Cardenas, Bourg and Smith are all juniors and Thomas Cardenas (brother to Alex) is a freshman.
