Contributed
The Bandera High School girls’ basketball team is dominating newly formed District 30-3A under first year coach David Farber.
On Friday, Jan.29, the Lady Dogs overpowered Ingram 53-28 bringing their district record to 5-2; on Tuesday Jan. 23, the ladies suffered only their second loss to Wimberley.
Senior Chelsea Calahan who averages 10.8 points per game (PPG), leads the Lady Dogs offensively, followed by juniors Kaylee Reeves, 7.8 ppg; and Amanda Shackelford with 6.4 ppg. Reeves and Shackelford also lead the team with assists – Reeves with 3.2 per game and Shackelford with 2.2.
Defensively, the Lady Dogs are led by top rebounders junior Taylor Shackelford with 4.6 per game, and Shelbi Martin with 3.4 per game.
The team is rounded out by seniors Karley Griffin, who adds 4 ppg and Kayla Reynolds with 1 ppg. Sophomore Rozlyn Reeves has 2.4 rebounds per game. Junior Gianna Canales, who had lead the JV team, was recently moved up to varsity for the second round of playoffs.
The girls hope that junior Cassie Lutz, a major player last year, will be able to return from her injuries sustained earlier this season.
This week, the Lady Dogs faced the Boerne Greyhounds in an away game on Tuesday and what looks to be shaping up to be a grudge match against the Canyon Lake Hawks Friday, Feb. 5, at home.
